Some background

Born in Atherton, about half way between Wigan and Manchester. Leigh Grammar School and then (1968) Liverpool University studying for a BSc Botany and then a PhD in marine algal ecology. Picture above is me in the early 1970s at Portree harbour on the Isle of Skye. After my PhD (1974), a job lecturing in Biology, Ecology and, later, Biostatistics and Conservation Biology. A year out in the 1980s at York University for an MSc in Biological Computation. In the early 1990s I became involved in eagle research in Scotland with Paul Haworth - still doing that in 2010 but now retired.

Next, a list of names from various parts of my life, some I'm still in contact with to different degrees. Hopefully, all are still alive, I've left off some who are no longer with us. If you are on the list please feel free to contact me. If you think that you should be on the list and I've left you off, I apologise but, in mitigation, I have a terrible memory. Indeed, I recently denied being a best man at a wedding until the photographic evidence proved me wrong! The list:
