Some background I'm not selling anything and hopefully you will find a few things of interest. Over time I hope to provide some content that will help people involved with the types of research that I have been undertaking for a few years, in particular measuring the accuracy of ecological models and conserving birds of prey.

About me

My publication history, - a list of my academic publications and some other brief notes about me.

I am a director of a charity called Highland Renewal, which manages a small, but beautiful estate on the south west tip of the Island of Mull. You can also find details of a long term field experiment on the estate at http://www.bioscience.heacademy.ac.uk/hosted/tireragan/.

I am a scientific advisor to the various Irish bird of prey re-introduction programmes, an expert advisor to a study of the possible impacts of wind farms on hen harriers in Ireland being undertaken by the University College Cork and, from March 2012, a member of the Scottish Natural Heritage Scientific Sdfvisory Committee.

Traigh Ghael beach on the Tireragan estate

Traigh Ghael beach is on the small estate managed by Highland Renewal. This is a beautiful wild place with rich and internationally important species and habitats. You are free to enter but beware the tracks are rough, wet and often overgrown. It is not an easy place to walk but you will be rewarded by the peace and the views.

Golden EagleYet another eagle found posioned on a Scottish Estate. See a BBC story for details and for a police map of poisoning incidents.
